OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director of Rehab Services, the Outpatient Coordinator will plan, schedule, organize, direct and supervise all services and operations the Outpatient Rehabilitation Services with the exception of evaluating employee’s performance.



  • Ensure smooth operations in Outpatient Rehabilitation Services with an emphasis on growing the Outpatient Rehabilitation Volume.
  • Monitor and maintain outpatient service compliance with regulatory bodies for environment of care and documentation standards
  • Develop and enforce appropriate policies and procedures with input from staff and within hospital guidelines
  • Assist in the development and operationalizing of departmental QI/QA projects, both mandated and voluntary
  • Assist Rehabilitation Director in Coordinating ongoing in-service education for staff
  • Conduct periodic outpatient-staff meetings and, as needed, discipline-specific meetings
  • Developing processes which facilitate improved departmental productivity while maintaining high quality outpatient care services
  • Participates in hospital committees and workgroups, as assigned


  • Arrange for clinical evaluation services to hospital-affiliated community entities, as requested
  • Establish relationships with professional schools to develop educational placement opportunities as appropriate
  • Provide volunteer and observation opportunities for pre-Rehab professional students, in coordination with the Volunteer Services Department


  • Assists the Rehab Director in management of the budget for the outpatient services
  • Identify Rehab-related equipment and supply needs for Outpatient Rehab Services & facilitating the purchase of said items in coordination with the Rehab Director and Materials Management
  • Assist Rehab Director to ensure appropriate billing for all disciplines throughout the department for outpatient services


  • Determining staffing needs and getting per diem help as needed
  • Planning of staff coverage to assure 5 to 6 days/week patient care coverage
  • Provide direct patient care, as needed


  • Assist in the development and implementation of the department’s Marketing Plan for outpatient services
  • Market outpatient rehabilitation services to physicians, regional healthcare facilities, community organizations, and other potential referral sources
  • Develop and market new programs
  • Participate in community outreach programs to increase hospital and rehab department referrals and maintaining community relations, as assigned


  • Meeting normal professional standards in regard to attendance, collaborative support, attendance at scheduled meetings and confidentially
  • Attending all required educational programs when requested, participates in supervisory employee education and training programs
  • Complying with annual employee health assessment
  • Complying with body substance isolation procedures
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to all patients served within the Rehab service
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Participates in CE programs to insure continued professional development; shares knowledge and technical skills with other department members
  • Participates in department program development projects as directed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Minimum of BS Degree in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, or Therapeutic Recreation

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Five years of professional work including supervisory responsibilities


  • The Outpatient Rehabilitation Services Coordinator will have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • The ability to understand spoken and written English words and sentences
  • The ability to perform duties and responsibilities promptly and consistently with little direct supervision in planning and organizing his/her work
  • The ability to judge the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances or problems

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Hospital inpatient and outpatient therapy environments. Outreach in Community (e.g. Senior and Community Centers, Assisted Living Facilities).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting ability of up to 25 lbs. with proper technique. Lifting and positioning of patients. Transferring of patients that are at a high risk of falling. Working with people that are frustrated or depressed due to their lack of functional ability or other issues. Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently. Ability to problem solve, requiring quick decision making and physical response
