OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: Exercises general supervision over laboratory staff. Coordinates a variety of administrative, fiscal, and technical activities to ensure the efficient operation of the clinical laboratory in the performance of tests for the diagnoses and treatment of disease.
Manages laboratory services in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards. Establishes and implements departmental policies and procedures consistent with hospital objectives and policies
Develops and monitor departmental budget. Reviews rates, analyzes equipment costs.
Selects, trains, and orients departmental personnel. Assigns work, evaluates performance and recommends personnel actions such as promotions, reclassification, and disciplinary actions.
Collects data, prepares reports, answers correspondence and compiles statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes
Addresses complaints about laboratory equipment and supplies utilizing effective cost control measures
Attends and participates in administrative and other meetings as required. Participates on committees as required/requested
Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, professional affiliations and independent reading
Maintains all records, reports, statistics, logs, files, etc. as required
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Medical Terminology
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years as medical terminologist with at least two (2) years supervisory/management responsibility
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: ASCP certified Medical Technologist or NCA certified
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens and toxic substances
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking for extended periods of time. Listing and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs. Visual acuity and normal color perception.
