OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: Dispenses supplies to all user departments in a prompt and efficient manner. Provides general information and status on availability of products and their use. Unloads, breaks down, tickets and stocks supplies. Stocks and exchanges supply carts, case carts and equipment. Issues supplies and equipment


  • Answers all inquiries on product availability and status of orders
  • Provides assistance to internal customers on the purchase of supplies
  • Fills requisitions from stock and provides prompt delivery via transport to all user departments
  • Assists physicians, nursing personnel, etc. with information concerning patient related orders; provides information when necessary on usage and procedures; assists with inquiries from OR and Medical/Surgical
  • Utilizes the Item Master & MMIS Systems to track changes in inventory levels
  • Responds to emergency situations promptly and provides all supplies and equipment necessary to facilitate patient care
  • Answers telephone calls to the department, relays all messages to proper personnel; answers all requests for information and handles departmental demands authorized by the department supervisor
  • Maintains and replenishes exchange and par level supply carts
  • Unloads, breaks down, tickets, and restocks supply shelves
  • Assists in picking up used and/or contaminated supplies and equipment from nursing units
  • Performs other duties as requested/as needed

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Completion of High School/GED

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in supply/processing/distribution area in healthcare setting preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Frequent exposure to unpleasant odors, heat, cold, dust, high noise level and other hazardous substances while storing and picking up supplies and equipment. Frequent exposure to hazards which could result in muscle strains, cuts, bruises, etc. due to transport/storage of supplies

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Substantial physical ability required in order to transport materials weighing up to 50 pounds from delivery area to stock shelves which are six feet high, deliver supplies to nursing units, and maneuver heavy carts

Required Skills

* Ability to read, write, perform simple mathematical calculations
* Be able to comprehend/follow/transmit written and detailed written and verbal instruction required
* Basic knowledge of medical terminology required in order to be consistent to the needs of nursing and physician services
* Demonstrated knowledge of product information and their applications, surgical instrumentation, and OR procedures required in order to assist with inquiries from OR nursing units, etc.
* Basic level of analytical abilities required in order to understand surgical procedures, patient services, and physician’s needs
* High level of interpersonal skills required in order to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and other hospital workers
* High level of mental/visual effort required to perform efficiently and effectively under stress
